Better Fish, Better Planet, Better Future.

We love fish, adore the ocean and care about all living creatures on earth.

We believe that sustainable, healthier, and animal-friendly protein sources are exactly what the world needs right now.

Fortunately, we have the knowledge and technology to make our vision a reality. It’s called E-FISHient, and it’s the fish of the future.

What Makes Our Fish Better?

Sustainability
Human Health
Fish Friendly
Food Security

Fish Consumption Today

Population growth and the need for readily available protein sources have led to two harmful processes: overfishing, which depletes fish populations and upsets the balance in nature, and aquaculture and fish farms, which provide a mass supply at the expense of freshwater and marine environments and fish that have ingested chemicals and microplastics.

Creating
a Better Future

We are adapting existing cell-culture technologies to successfully engineer a healthier, tastier and sustainable fish.

E-FISHient is a collaboration between BioMeat FoodTech and the Volcani Institute, which unites the best minds in the industry to bring the fish of the future to your dinner table.

What Makes it Possible?
(Hint: Our Technology)

1

Source Cells

Our move from genetically defined fish to continuous cell lines and cell banking removes live fish from bioproduction

The first step of cell-based fish production involves collecting cell samples from animal tissue (typically by biopsy) without harming the fish.

The harvested cells are then utilized to build differentiated cell banks for later use in multiple processes like producing our great fish meat.

2

Scale Up

Our advanced technology for cell growth creates a sustainable fish meat culture as close as possible to nature

The second step is to take a small number of cells from the cell bank and grow them using a proprietary technology.

Gradual reproduction allows the cells to scale up for wider growth. Our team of experts constantly improves the growing conditions to make them as natural as possible and to serve the healthiest and tastiest fish direct to your dinner plate.

3

Harvesting

We harvest cells and turn them into fish that will create a better future for all

After the cells have multiplied into billions of cells and formed additional elements such as tissue, muscle and fat, we turn them into cultivated fish meat. The result is a sustainable, healthy and delicious fish that can be eaten with a clear conscience.

4

Better Fish

A fish that’s better for you, for the planet and for our future

Our fish (currently tilapia, with other species in the pipeline) have been created with the understanding that the food of the future must be different. These are not mere words. We truly believe food production should be environmentally conscious and provide humanity with healthy and accessible sources of protein. We will continue the hard work, and soon you’ll be able to taste and discover it for yourself.

Who We Are

E-FISHient Protein is the result of a partnership between the Volcani Institute and BioMeat FoodTech. We’re developing cell-based fish (first tilapia, then other fish species), as part of our mission to create better fish, a better world, and a better future for the planet.
